FEDERAL SECRETARY OSORIO CHONG VISITS SAN LUIS POTOSI AND SIGNS COOPERATION AGREEMENTS; «SECURITY IN THE STATE IS STABLE»: OSORIO CHONG; MAYOR RICARDO GALLARDO CONTINUES HIS «BACK TO SCHOOL» SOCIAL PROGRAM, AMID CALLS OF POPULISM.
FEDERAL INTERIOR SECRETARY, OSORIO CHONG, HIGHLIGHTS TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY IN OFFICIAL VISIT TO SAN LUIS POTOSI
“We’ll use San Luis Potosi as an example for the whole country, of transparency, accountability and citizen participation” were the words of the federal Secretary of the Interior (Secretario de Gobernación), Miguel Angel Osorio Chong, after signing a cooperation agreement with state Governor, Juan Manuel Carreras, on Federalism, Descentralization and Municipal Development.
Osorio acknowledged the efforts being put into government accountability in the State, and he recognized the fact that SLP is in the forefront at a national level, also, being the first to sign the agreement with the Federal Government.
Prior to that, Secretary Osorio and Governor Carreras launched the national campaign, “September, Month of the Testament (Will)”, to encourage more people to draw their wills; during that month, Public Notaries extend office hours and charge half rates for that procedure.
Governor Carreras, for his part, emphasized citizen participation will be strenghthened and the use of public resources will be made more transparent with these agreements between State and Federal governments.
Transparency is a major problem in most Mexican governments at all levels, so this open support from the second most important official in the federal government, is extremely important for the Potosino administration.

- Secretary Osorio claimed stressed the “ample cooperation” between State and Federal governments against crime.
After signing a transparency agreement with SLP Governor, Interior Secretary Miguel Angel Osorio Chong pointed out that crime indicators are a clear example of a succesful fight against crime here in the State.
The secretary highlighted the recent arrest of a major “cartel” leader, as institutional and intergovernmental collaboration; he also announced more actions to arrest other criminals and help out the state in keeping stability in public safety for all potosinos.
Security has become a major concern for Potosinos in the last year, after drug style executions and major crimes have soared, while the State government has seemed incapable of stemming the crime levels.

- Fifth day of “Back to School 2017” program in “Las Terceras” neighborhood
Mayor Ricardo Gallardo confirmed his commitment to continue the municipality’s social programs, which benefit several thousand families in the city.
As such, he pledged to go back in December to the populous and largely marginal neighbourhood of “Las Terceras”, to deliver winter supplies like blankets, to poor families.
Meanwhile, he gave school supplies to several hundred children, that start classes next Monday, a program which will continue during the week throughout the city.
The mayor has come under fire from several political parties and largely conservative commerce and industrial chambers, as «populist», for using these social programs in underprivileged neighborhoods.
