Archdiocesis spokesman, Juan José Priego Rivera

Juan José Priego Rivera, spokesman for the San Luis Potosí Catholic Archdiocesis, pointed out that the hanged individuals found on bridges in the city, are the “icing on the cake”, needed to frighten tourists and scare off future investments.

“Our state has emergency lights on, and it affects us; if a potential investor is frightened, he will not come”, he added.

August has become a particularly violent month, three bodies were hanged from a pedestrian bridge located on Federal Highway 57; the State’s Prosecutors Office has registered 34 violent deaths.

State Prosecutors Office denies cancellation of Mayors subpoenas, related to “Corruption Equation”

Oliver Meade Herverth, General Visitor Prosecutors Office

The General Visitor of the State Prosecutors Office (PGJE), Oliver Meade Herbert denied that the subpoenas issued to 5 mayors involved in in the infamous “Corruption Equation” (a corruption scandal involving 4 state deputies and paybacks for public works financed with federal money).

After the mayor from Villa de Reyes in a phone interview, said that the PGJE postponed his programmed appearance to testify about the situation, Meade Herbert denied such a claim and said that at least 2 of the mayors complied and his office has already issued new subpoenas, although there is no compulsory time to comply.

He added that there is a significant progress in the investigation and that there will be subpoenas for most potosino Mayors, although, at the moment, they are only summoning those directly involved, as witnesses.
