“I can walk the streets safely”: San Luis Potosi governor, Juan Manuel Carreras
In spite of the rise in criminal activity in the last few months in the state, Governor Juan Manuel Carreras claimed that in San Luis Potosi, “We’re presenting battle, and we’re doing it well”.
Carreras also said that there’s less criminal activity during this government period, compared with criminal activity statistics between 2003 and 2009, period governed by National Action Party (PAN) Marcelo De los Santos.
After being questioned about it being safe to walk in potosino streets, the governor answered “I can walk the streets safely”.
State budget will increase 1.5 billion pesos (83.5 million dollars)
The 2018 state budget, is expected to be at least 43 billion pesos (2.39 billion pesos), which would be a 1% increase on the 2017 budget.
José Luis Ugalde, State Finance Secretary, pointed out that that is approximately 1.5 billion pesos (83.5 million dollars); the Federal Budget will be published on September 8th, and that will be a general guideline on how much the state can expect.
Ugalde Montes mentioned that San Luis Potosi has up to the month of November to turn the 2018 State Budget Proposal to local Congress for it to be authorized.
City government cannot grant Union what they demand: Senior City Administrator
City Union demands seem more of a “Santa Claus letter”, as they are asking for many things, although “we will study” the petitions, declared Noe Lara Enríquez, San Luis Potosi City Government Senior Administrative Officer.
Among the petitions there’s a 6% salary increase, which, according to Noe Lara, cannot be given, as it is excessive “but we’ll negotiate”, he emphasized.
The Officer pointed out that the Union is made up of 2,200 workers, from the 4,600 that work for the city.
More people expected to visit the National Potosino Fair (FENAPO) in its last weekend
The president of the National Potosino Fair Organizing Commitee, Rafael Villalobos, said that the fair is expecting a surge of visitors for its last weekend.
He added that there are still several activities which draw many people, like the traditional FENAPO-CANACO 10K race, the ice skating show, several concerts and the livestock expo.
This August 25, is San Luis Potosi’s patron saint day, Saint Louis King of France, and the FENAPo will celebrate with an attractive firework display, as is traditional in what is known as “Summers’ best ‘Fiesta’!”.
