Police operations close to the Governor’s Residence, take potosinos by surprise

State Police patrol close to the Governor’s House

Today, during the morning, potosinos were nonplussed by unusual police movements in the southwestern neighborhood of Cumbres.

These operations were caused by a cab drivers protest march towards the Governor’s Residence, located in that area.

The cabbies were expressing their disgruntlement with new taxi licenses given by the state government and permits in the suburban area of Escalerillas. The protestors held a rally on Rocallosas street, on the driveway of the government facility and afterwards they dispersed and cleared the streets.

There are over two thousand taxis in the metro area, and the drivers’ associations are severely displeased over the operations of UBER and their continued acceptance by users, constantly disputing the legality of the service; many taxi operators are “hunting” UBERS, attacking them at night and covering the cab numbers and plates, while the state Communications and Transportation Department has turned a blind eye on these aggressions.

At least three robberies per month in the Industrial Zone

Ricardo Pérez Castillo, President of UUZI

Ricardo Pérez Castillo, head of the Industrial Zone Users Union (UUZI), informed that in that sector, there are at least three car robberies and break-ins each month.

There are parts of the zone that have a higher crime incidence than others, like Industrias Avenue and Perez Castillo pointed out that as many people park in the streets, it becomes attractive for criminals, “If we can give mobility and transit options, we’ll help lower these crime levels”.

Potosinos do not feel safe in the streets: National Action Party, (PAN)

Xavier Azuara Zúñiga, State President of Acción Nacional party

Xavier Azuara, State Committee president of the National Action Party, (PAN) declared that “7 out of 10 potosinos are not wrong: we do not feel safe in the streets” and he called upon different authorities to be more sensitive, as fear has taken over San Luis Potosi.

He added that those who go out every day to take the bus after work; downtown business owners; whole families and women, do not feel they can go out and walk in the streets. He lamented that public funds only guarantee the safety a very few, “If all Potosinos had the same privileges, we would undoubtedly all feel safe”.

Finally, Azuara emphasized that insecurity conditions worry everyone and that it is high time the government analyzes the real security results, not made up and vague or indefinite statistics to display to the media.
