Extreme and moderate poverty levels, down by 3.5% in SLP: CONEVAL

Extreme poverty levels in SLP

 45.6% of Potosino families live in moderate or extreme poverty, that is 1.27 million inhabitants; it represents a 3.5% decrease regarding 2014 levels, according to the National Social Policies Evaluation Council (CONEVAL).

The Poverty Evolution Report 201-2016, presented by CONEVAL, showed that 70,400 potosinos came out of these poverty indicators.

According to the report, moderate poverty population went down from 1,079,600 to 1,053,900 which is 1.7% Extreme poverty Potosinos went down from 258,500 to 213,800 which implies a 1.85% reduction.

 

Proposal for Anti-Corruption Special Attorney General

Jorge Chessal Palau nominated for Anti Corruption Attorney General

The Citizen’s Transparency Council nominated Jorge Chessal Palau and the president of the Mexican Lawyers Bar, Chapter San Luis, Angelina Acosta Villegas, to head the Anti-Corruption Special Attorney General’s Office.

The nomination was sent to Governor Juan Manuel Carreras and is endorsed by several NGO’s and social organizations, among which are the Archdiocesis, several business chambers (CANACINTRA; CANACO; COPARMEX, IPAC, Accountants, College, the Lawyers Bar, Lawyers College, Industrial Zone Users Association, among others).

Chessal Palau pointed out that it is Governor Carreras decision on who’s nominated to Congress to be ratified, but that it is a high honor on being considered by these citizen associations.

 

 

Hurricane Harvey affected tourism in San Luis Potosi: City Tourism Director

Patricia Véliz Alemán, City Tourism Director, declared that the hurricane that has hit Houston is significantly affecting hotel occupation in San Luis Potosi, as international flights to and from both cities have been cancelled.

Business transactions have also been affected. Véliz Alemán cited figures to show these effects: last Sunday, hotel occupation was at 42%, when usually it is closer to 60% and on Monday, it was 82%, down 8% from a normal 90%.

The city official added that airport authorities expect flights to go back to normal by next Friday, both going to and coming back from Houston.
