Mayor Ricardo Gallardo dismisses alliances between parties in 2018
After several mentions of a possible alliance between the National Action Party (PAN) and the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD, to which he belongs), city mayor Ricardo Gallardo Juarez said that, in his opinion, it is not a feasible option.
“With all due respect, I believe that in San Luis Potosi conditions are not the right ones for an alliance, but that’s what I think”, he emphasized.
He insisted that it is only his opinion and that in the PRD there might be other ideas, «it will be the party that will set up the guidelines for the next elections», he mentioned.
“José Luis Fernandez (state party president) has already declared that an alliance could happen; I, personally do not think there can be one and if it were up to me, I wouldn’t do it”, he concluded.
Army and Navy should help with security in San Luis Potosi: Private Sector
Several Potosino business leaders gave a confidence vote to the newly created state Metropolitan Police, but at the same time, they agreed that the Mexican Army could take charge of security matters in the state, patrol the streets and reduce the fear that Potosinos are feeling.
Jaime Chalita, president of Business Owners Confederation (COPARMEX); Guillermo Aldrett of Potosino Industrials (IPAC); and Alberto Narvaez Arochi of “Nuestro Centro” (downtown business organization), agreed that violence has reached unprecedented levels and that all authorities have to put Potosino security foremost.
They also called for more coordination between the three government levels (federal, state and municipal) to stop this unheard of before violence and for immediate results, as what can be seen right now, is not what Potosinos need.
Potosino gastronomy will be strengthened as a tourist attraction
To project potosino typical food as a tourist attraction, Federal Tourism Secretary installed the “Gastronomy Development Policy Work Force” (the fifth state in which it’s set up).
Governor Juan Manuel Carreras pointed out to the touristic growth of the state, which has been over 10%, while the national average is 3.5. This means that over 1.5 million visitors have come to San Luis Potosi in business, convention, adventure, cultural and artistic tourism, which has placed the state in the first places of this activity’s growth and made it one of the most important non-beach destinations.
Enrique De la Madrid , the Federal Secretary, asserted that San Luis Potosi is “open to the world”, which brings more tourists and visitors to the state, in an industry that nationwide, employs over 10 million workers and represents 8.7 % of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
