Fernando Chavez Mendez, Chairman of the Congress’ Board of Directors, informed that in the next ordinary session, the State Deputies will vote on the elimination of legislative and government privilege (fuero), because of which elected officials cannot be prosecuted before Congress strips them of that immunity.
For Congress to be able to vote on this question, as it implies a state constitutional amendment, a majority of municipal governments (Cabildos) had to approve it. Of the 58 municipalities, 32 have already voted in favor.
Chávez Méndez pointed out to the efforts being made to fulfill potosinos’ expectations on the fight against corruption “This third year of the legislature will be of hard and transparent work for San Luis Potosí”, he emphasized.
