STRATEGIC FISCAL CENTER TO BE BUILT IN SAN LUIS POTOSI

Monterrey based Motomex, announced plans for a 250 million peso (12.5 million dollars) Fiscal Center in the municipality of Villa de Reyes, some 20 miles south of the city of San Luis Potosi, which will serve export companies in the different industrial zones of the metro area.
San Luis’s strategic location was the leading reason that investors decided on the site, which will span 25 thousand square meters (almost 270 thousand square feet), in the World Trade Center Industrial Park.
The goal will be to be more efficient in trade and customs duties for companies sending their products through the US border, or to the the Pacific ports like Manzanillo and the Gulf port of Altamira.
FOREIGN GAS STATIONS INTERESTED IN POTOSINO MARKET

Now that price restrictions on gasoline (petrol) have been eliminated, several foreign companies have expressed their interest in setting up service stations in the state.
Gustavo Puente, Economic Development Secretary, said that Exxon Mobil and other companies could take advantage of the new legislation which allows for more competition in the sector.
He also added that now, supply and demand are what regulate prices, and consumers will seek not only price, but service, so the market should offer other better opportunities.
Finally, he mentioned that there are already plans for establishing at least two fuel supply and distribution centers, one by local investors and another by a joint operation between Watco and Kansas City Southern.
SAN LUIS CAR INDUSTRY CLUSTER TO DEVELOP A JOINT PROJECT WITH JAPAN

Given the state’s strategic location and importance to the international car industry, the Japanese government has invited San Luis to be part of the supply and training cluster, together with other states in the Bajio region.
San Luis Potosi, Queretaro, Guanajuato and Aguascalientes, are part of a training and supply development project set out by the Japanese government to help out that country’s auto industry; the project spans five years.
San Luis Potosi has 230 companies thet serve the auto industry, and 60 of them belong to the Cluster, which has grown and has tier 1, 2 and 3 companies.
POLITICAL PARTIES IN SAN LUIS POTOSI HAVE DEFINED THEIR ELECTORAL ALLIANCES

Last Wednesday was the last day for local political parties to register their alliances, for the upcoming elections in 2018; besides Federal president, deputies (representatives) and senators, at the state level there will be elections for Municipal Presidents (Mayors) and the state Congress (27 deputies).
As such, the Governors party, PRI, has decided to not go into electoral coalition, but a more flexible alliance, with the Green Party (PVEM) and the state party Popular Concience (PC).
The National Action Party registered a ‘partial’ coalition with Democratic Revolution Party (PRD) and Citizen’s Movement (MC), and will run with common candidates in 27 municipalities.
Finally, National Regeneration Movement (MORENA), registered their coalition with the Work Party (PT) and Social Encounter Party (PES).
The coalitions and alliances have to be registered and approved by the State Citizens Participation and Electoral Council (CEEPAC).
2017, THE MOST VIOLENT YEAR IN SAN LUIS POTOSI

507 intentional murders were registered in 2017, 52.25 % more than in 2016, which had 333 violent deaths, most of them related to organized crime.
According to the National Public Security System (SNSP), the month that peaked u¡in violent activity, was October, with 83 intentional murders.
A large part of these assassinations and were caused by the fierce battle being held between cells of the drug cartels that are trying to control the region, Gulf Cartel, Northeastern Cartel and the “Zetas”; the crimes that have ocurred tend to be extremely bloody and harsh.
One of the consequences of this ongoing ‘turf war’, was the sacking of the Public Security Secretary, Arturo Gutierrez, and the naming of a new Secretary, Jaime Ernesto Pineda.
MEXICAN BUSINESS OWNER FEDERATION (COPARMEX) POINTS OUT CHALLENGES FOR 2018
January 1st, 2018.
Jaime Chalita Zarur, president of the Mexican Business Owner Federation (COPARMEX), San Luis Chapter, pointed out the challenges that face the state and the economy, this starting year.
“We must strenghten the state’s economy, consolidate a new mobility scheme to the towards the industrial zone and improve worker training to reduce workforce rotation”, declared the private sector representative.
He added that San Luis is the ninth ranked economy in Mexico and the third in the Bajio region, which gives large employment possibilities, but also increases workers rotation.
He also pointed out that more companies decided to establish themselves in San Luis, which is positive but also creates several situations that need to be solved to keep up the growth rate.
