USA renews travel warning for organized crime violence; SLP is still in the list
The U.S. Department of State warns U.S. citizens about the risk of traveling to certain parts of Mexico due to the activities of criminal organizations in those areas. U.S. citizens have been the victims of violent crimes, including homicide, kidnapping, carjacking, and robbery in various Mexican states. This Travel Warning replaces the Travel Warning for Mexico issued December 8, 2016.
Also, U.S. government personnel are prohibited from patronizing adult clubs and gambling establishments in the states of Coahuila, Durango, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, San Luis Potosi, Nuevo Leon, Tamaulipas, Jalisco, Colima, and Nayarit.
In San Luis Potosi, U.S. government personnel may travel outside the city of San Luis Potosi only during daylight hours on toll roads. Between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m., U.S. government personnel must abide by the Embassy-imposed curfew and remain within the city of San Luis Potosi.
Financing for businesses must be strengthened: Business Owner Confederation (COPARMEX)
– Woman owners account for 30% of micro businesses
Jaime Chalita, president of the local chapter of the Mexican Business Owner Confederation (COPARMEX) mentioned that one in ten businesses cannot get credit or financing from banks, which is a ‘must’ for them to grow in the markets in which they compete.
This lack of credit can be attributed to bad credit history and weak payment capability; in spite of that, COPARMEX will keep lobbying for more and softer credit opportunities.
“As business owners we understand the need to improve our credit history, but also, the financial system has to be more flexible in giving credit”, he added.
Also, Chalita pointed out that, according to the National Geography and Informatics Studies Institute (INEGI), 30 percent of micro businesses are owned by women, which means that female participation is on the rise.
